Buffalo Systems
Sheffield, England
Buffalo Systems was born in 1979, when Scottish mountaineer Hamish Hamilton set out to solve a simple problem: staying warm and dry without piling on the layers. His answer was the Double P System — a windproof Pertex shell worn straight over a pile lining, with no waterproof membrane at all. The pile wicks moisture and dries fast, the Pertex blocks the wind and rain, and together they do the job of a base layer, mid layer and outer shell in one. It's been trusted kit for UK Mountain Rescue teams, the fire service and the military ever since.
Today, Buffalo make jackets, shirts, trousers and accessories built on that same principle — rugged, functional outdoor gear rather than outdoor fashion.
Hamilton passed away in 2024, and in 2025 adventurer Ben Fogle and Savile Row tailor James Sleater took over the company — committing to keep production exactly where it's always been, in Sheffield.
